Project 9

Project 9

I tried to make a 3Dish version of the already three dimensional (in real life) Stonehenge.  There is a light giving it a light redish hue and an animated camera.

Projects 7 & 8

Projects 7 & 8

Project 7 was to chromakey a background on to some green screen footage and Project 8 was to create a 3 Particle effects, which I combined all in this video!

Projects 5 & 6

Projects 5 & 6

For these two projects I combined them into one video.  The first was to make an animated text, so I made a text bomb.  The latter was to motion track a video and add a new element to it, so I added the bomb to what I motion tracked.

Projects 3 & 4

Project 3

For my third project I used After Effects to create ship warping through space from the cockpit's view.  I used lots of good old effects to create the warping.  As far as requirements go I used nested compositions and a bunch of parenting to keep the ship's HUD in place as it wiggles around.

Project 4

For Project 4 I made the Event Horizon (yay for silly scifi movies) emerging
from a warp tunnel.  I used stenciling to make it seem like its coming out of the warp.  The warp and engine flame were made with particle effects.  And finally the stars all shimmering with the help of Fractal noise and lumma mattes!

Projects 1 & 2

Project 1 was to create a Photoshop image with layers and masks.  I ended up putting images of UFOs doing various "UFO activities" in a dark forest.  For the second project, I animated the actions the UFOs did in After Effects.

Introduction

Hello, I am Michael Madden and I am currently a film and computer science major at University of Texas in Austin.  I would have to say that right around the time I first saw Army of Darkness in 8th grade is when I really started to love movies.  I have always had an interest in video games since I got my Nintendo 64 long, long ago, thus the computer programming.  I really hope to combine the two into a cohesive whole, but I still have awhile to go as far as that.  I also have a deep love for music and hopefully I can use that towards the cohesive whole that I want.

As far as favorites go, I would have to say that in the film area, Terry Gilliam reins supreme.  His visual style and some of his more fantastical story plots all stem from his huge love for stories and the art of telling them.  I would have to say that this love is what influences me the most as a filmmaker/storyteller.
In video games that would go to Fallout 3, seeing as I am a huge sucker for post apocalyptic settings.  And as far as music, I would say the one band I can always listen to is King Crimson.  The 60s were the best.
